Plans Change!

On the evening of Thursday 4/22/99 we received the following email:

We just wanted to let a few people know about a special sale we're having at Kilblaan Farm.

We have a group of five females of excellent quality and varied colors available at a DEEPLY DISCOUNTED price. Their owner is very motivated to sell. This is an opportunity for someone to establish or add to their herd for an unbelievably low investment.

We'd love you to come see them or call us for details.

Liz and John MacEachran, Kilblaan Farm

We called Liz on Friday, drove to their farm in western New Hampshire early Saturday morning, and were the owners of three beautiful female alpaca by Saturday noon!

While we were there Tosha, our dog, tested Liz and John's electric fence and reported that it was working just fine. Fence testing has proved to be Tosha's main contribution to our farming efforts.

Lattee, in the front, was already pregnant and was due in September. Annie, left, and Fiesta, right, were open.
The Girls
The girls just wanted to say "HI!" for themselves

Now all of our plans had to be accelerated. We made arrangements with Liz and John to have Annie and Fiesta bred and they agreed to keep all three until we could find a farm. We drove back to Maine and began searching for a farm with renewed vigor. Soon we came across this ad that said "20 acre horse farm with 4 bedrooms". I asked Nancy if we had ever checked into this farm before and she said "No". We both looked at the ad again and decided that it must have been the picture that turned us off before, but now things were different, we were on a mission. We gave the broker a call and went to see the house. We were pleasantly surprised. The house set back off the road about 100 yards with field between the house and the road. There were about 5 acres of nice field, which would be plenty of pasture to get us started. There was additional acreage which could be cleared for future pasture expansion. It was located just a few miles form our current house so the school was no problem, and the part that I liked best was the really cool old tractor which was parked in the garage.

Just like new After some negotiation we arrived at an agreeable price, which included the tractor, and put the property under contract. The closing date was set for may 14th.
